While attending the World's Fair in Chicago, he heard a pastor remark he needed God every moment of the day. This prompted Whittle to pen the lyrics to the hymn. His daughter May Whittle Moody (wife of D.L.Moody's son), composed the music.

Whittle offered Ira Sankey (American gospel singer and composer, associated with evangelist D.L. Moody) copyright of both words and music if he'd have 500 copies printed on fine paper. Whittle distributed these to his friends. Sankey had the hymn published and it became very popular in England as well as a favorite of Andrew Murray, a South African writer, teacher and Pastor.

Did you see how God works in this little hymn story? A man went to the fair; heard a remark; wrote words based on that remark, gave to his daughter who wrote music for it, daughter happened to be married to an evangelist's son. Evangelist happened to have a singer and composer who could get the song copied and published, which ended up in the hands of a well known writer, pastor and teacher.

I wonder how many people this hymn has encouraged?? Probably millions. There are no coincidences with God. When we're faithful to what He prompts us to do, we are part of a bigger plan . . the full extent known only to Him.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: verdana, sans-serif; You can find this Christmas miracle in Luke 2 in the Bible. The reason God sent His son Jesus to earth to take on human form, was so He could die and redeem us from our sins.

John 3:16 says - "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Our sin debt has been paid on the cross. That's the greatest gift we could receive. That's the news of great joy to everyone.

Who's a whosoever? Anyone! I am, you are. The word Whosoever is a pronoun defined as anyone; any person whatever. Jesus died for all and simply asks that we believe.

What can I give Him, poor as I am?

If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;

If I were a wise man, I would do my part;

Yet what can I give Him?

I'll give Him my heart.

~ Christina Georgina Rossetti ~

Have a blessed week friends as we head into the fourth week of the Advent season.

Little Birdie Blessingshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14673752124765885843noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2465855895300426865.post-40278182525062999662021-12-01T07:55:00.002-05:002021-12-01T07:55:19.246-05:00Christmas Attire
<span style="background-color: white; color: #050505; font-family: "Segoe UI Historic", "Segoe UI", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">A good verse to remember through this Christmas season.
<div dir="auto" style="animation-name: none !important; background-color: white; color: #050505; font-family: "Segoe UI Historic", "Segoe UI", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; transition-property: none !important; white-space: pre-wrap;">.....clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. <span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The hymn O God, Our Help in Ages Past was written by Isaac Watts in 1719. Just prior to that, England's people were anxious as their Queen Anne lay dying and had no heirs. Change was inevitable and uncertain. Isacc's father had been imprisoned and a new monarch could mean a longer prison stay.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Isaac turned to Psalm 90-----

Psalm 90:1-2
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Before the mountains were brought forth,
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Or ever You had formed the earth and the world,
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

.....and was led by the Lord to pen this timeless hymn. Here are a couple verses from it:

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">O God, our help in ages past,
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">our hope for years to come,
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">our shelter from the stormy blast,
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">and our eternal home:
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">O God, our help in ages past,
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">our hope for years to come:
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">O be our guard while troubles last,
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">and our eternal home.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I tend to think Mr. Watts would have had no idea people would still be comforted today, some 300 years later by the words he wrote. God helped people then, God helps people now. Of that we can be sure.

O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come.....

This hymn was played for President Franklin Roosevelt at the request of British leader Winston Churchill, when the two met in 1941 on board the HMS Prince of Wales to create the Atlantic Charter. It was also sung at Churchill's 1965 funeral in St. Paul's Cathedral, London.
I remember visiting my Mamaw’s farm every year when I was young, and some of my happiest childhood memories consist of feeding her small herd of beef (err, pet) cattle, sleeping in too-big church camp t-shirts stored in a hall closet specially for us kids, and eating her homemade crumbly oatmeal bread sopped in freshly mashed strawberries. We spent hours roaming around the farm and loved exploring the old toys, tools, cars and random oddities scattered around the farm. To us, they weren’t clutter, they were our next adventure.

I grew up hearing stories, passed down from my mom, about my grandparents’ childhoods during The Great Depression. Mamaw was 7 years old when it began. She lived with her younger sister and parents on a farm in rural Arkansas. I remember hearing about the creative ways my great grandmother would find to make the occasional sweet treat when sugar was impossible to find and the neighbor boy who would “just happen” to show up when said treat was coming out of the oven. I remember hearing of the dresses made from flour sack material when there was no money left for clothes.

Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without!

A few miles down the road, my 17 year old grandfather lived with his mother on a homestead claim that his father had started to work before he died a few years earlier. They lived in a small house built originally for hired workers to live in, and kept food on the table by hiring sharecroppers to help with the farming. That very house sat at the end of Mamaw’s driveway, and I remember going down there with my mom as a kid, weaving our way through overgrown brambles and her holding us up so we could see through the broken windows to the past. In both of my grandparents’ childhoods, scarcity as a result of something far outside of their control was a common occurrence.

As an adult now, knowing the history of the Depression and gaining some life experience about what it’s like to be human and living in an uncertain world, the clutter of things kept “just in case” that we played with as kids makes sense to me. The last few weeks have held events that are out of our control and we’ve seen people (or we’ve BEEN the people) panic buying, hoarding, and hoping we’ll have enough. “Just a little more,” we think. “Then we’ll be ____ (insert applicable security adjective). But if our hope is in our own ability to provide, when will we ever have enough? I think the answer is never. If we rely on our own ability to meet our needs, it will never feel like enough because deep down we recognize the frailty of our own capabilities and understand that in an instant, everything we’ve built for ourselves could be wiped out.

But we know the One who owns the cattle on a thousand hills, who calms wind and waves, who causes rulers to rise and fall, who feeds the birds and gives life to flowers just because. Over and over, we see in scripture how God provides for His people. A ram in the bushes for Isaac. Manna, quail, and water from a rock for the Israelites. An earthquake for Peter. Someone to explain scripture for the Eunuch. God knows what we need, when we need it, and He will provide it. It might not look like what we think it will or what we think it should, but He does not fail to provide.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Hello friends. I have a wonderful old hymn to share with you today. As we move into a new year on our calendar, let's choose to TRUST more, and worry less. The title of this hymn "Trusting Jesus, That is All". No matter our circumstances, or the causes of our stress, we can TRUST in the Lord Jesus. There is no problem He can't handle. Ask Him to help you. Has He helped you before? He will do it again.

We read in Proverbs 3:5-6 to:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And lean not on your own understanding;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In all your ways acknowledge Him,
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And He shall direct your paths.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Here's the lyrics to this comforting hymn which was first published as a poem and later set to music.

Simply trusting every day,
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Trusting through a stormy way;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Even when my faith is small,
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Trusting Jesus, that is all.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">chorus:
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Trusting as the moments fly,
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Trusting as the days go by;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Trusting Him whate’er befall,
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Trusting Jesus, that is all.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Brightly doth His Spirit shine
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Into this poor heart of mine;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">While He leads I cannot fall;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Trusting Jesus, that is all.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Singing if my way is clear,
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Praying if the path be drear;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">If in danger for Him call;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Trusting Jesus, that is all.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Trusting Him while life shall last,
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Trusting Him till earth be past;
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Till within the jasper wall,
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Trusting Jesus, that is all.
Edgar Stites, 1876
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I wrote my very first blog post here in September of 2010. So much has changed with me personally in that time. I'm older (true story), have enough grandchildren now to start my own sports team, I help my aging mother, and try to spend as much time as I can with family and friends.

Thank you for following this series, for all your comments, notes, messages, likes, shares, etc. You are appreciated and prayed for. If you're happy to see this post here at Little Birdie Blessings, you can thank my dear friend Vee, who blogs at A HAVEN FOR VEE <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">(click on link to go visit her blog). <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">We've been friends for many years and met through our blogs. Since we live in the same state, we've had opportunity to meet on numerous occasions. One of them being yesterday. Vee is standing in the need of prayer as she has cancer. I'd so appreciate it if you'd say a prayer for her. Thank you.

I hope and pray you have a blessed Christmas and remember Jesus is the reason for the season.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This hymn Moment by Moment was written by Daniel Whittle (1840-1901). While attending the World's Fair in Chicago, he heard a pastor remark he needed G<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">od every moment of the day. This prompted Whittle to pen the lyrics to the hymn. His daughter May Whittle Moody (wife of D.L.Moody's son), composed the music.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Whittle offered Ira Sankey (American gospel singer and composer, associated with evangelist D.L.

I thanked her for the concern. I knew that all the positive energy she and her friends had combined, wasn't going to help my loved one.

God gave us His Word, the Bible as an instruction manual for our life. A quick online search (www.biblegateway.com) gave me a word count that pray/prayer is mentioned over 600 times in the King James Bible. I did a search for "positive energy" and it's no surprise, that phrase is not in the Bible.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions
with all kinds of prayers and requests.
With this in mind, be alert and always
keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Ephesians 6:18

Have you ever thought - All I can do is pray!!

Billy Graham said that's the equivalent of offering a starving man food.

Meaning, it's the BEST we can offer someone.

He says, Praying unlocks the doors of Heaven and releases the power of God.

God wants us to pray for others, He uses our prayers to touch their lives.

I have a dear friend in a severe trial. When I saw her this past week, she said she was filled with so much anxiety that particular morning, she could hardly bear it. She prayed and asked the Lord to lift the oppressive burden from her and she immediately had a sense of peace wash over her. The trial didn't go away, but the Lord gave her the peace she needed for that day. It was evident on her face. There was a physical change I saw in her before she even told me.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Elisabeth Elliot - What God gives in answer to our prayers will always be the thing we most urgently need, and it will always be sufficient.

Corrie Ten Boom – Sometimes I pray with an open Bible and say, “Father, You have promised us this, now I trust that You will do it.” I know God likes that for He has meant every promise and He is pleased when we believe His promises.

Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:12-13

My husband (and pastor) shares his thoughts on prayer:
Have you ever thought of all the people in the world, who are praying at the same time in hundreds, possibly thousands of languages and dialects? God hears every prayer. He not only hears the prayers, He remembers every word of each prayer. The number of prayers God has heard since Adam & Eve is as the number of the grains of sand by the sea. That in itself is remarkable, yet to further astound us is the fact He has remembered every word that has ever been spoken by anyone. He knows all the words we will ever speak. We serve an awesome, omniscient God with unlimited abilities.

The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
Psalm 145:18

There is great comfort received when listening, singing or playing the old hymns. The words are timeless. I grew up with the old hymns and started playing them on the piano when I was quite young. I'd listen to them intently in church and go home and play them.

I've made a pdf file featuring six hymn tags, available for free to you. Just download, print and cut (link below). I've shown some where I punched a hole and added some off white seam binding. My favorite kind of ribbon!

Hello friends. I know I haven't been posting regularly to the blog. I am going to be posting now every Friday and perhaps one other day during the week. I'll have a free graphic for you. This is a new scripture graphic I made with Psalm 34:4. As one who has always had anxiety, this is a go to verse for me. Feel free to save to your computer and print out, or even text the image to a friend. You can find more free images on my blog or on my freebies page here: Free Graphics from Birdie Blessings. The terms of use are listed on that page. Have a blessed day.

Palm Sunday Scripture ~ Matthew 21:1-11 (NKJV)

Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me. And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”

All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:

“Tell the daughter of Zion,

‘Behold, your King is coming to you,

Lowly, and sitting on a donkey,

A colt, the foal of a donkey.’

So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them. They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them. And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:

“Hosanna to the Son of David!

‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’

Hosanna in the highest!”

And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying,
“Who is this?”

So the multitudes said, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Troubles are around us, there's no way to avoid it. If we don't have troubles, we know someone who does. Some are little troubles, others are too big to comprehend. Whatever our trouble, we have a source to go to, if we choose.

Why not share it with them, or save to your computer/phone to print out or text to someone. Use in Bible journaling, paper crafts, tuck in a card to a friend, use as a bookmark. How will you use it? How does this verse encourage you?

Have a blessed day. Please remember you have more value than the little birds God made. If He tenderly cares for them, know He will do more for you if you ask Him. (see Matthew 6:25-34)

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">I remember reading a true story about a little boy, 5 years old, who was asked to give his blood so his sister could live. When the doctor explained it to him and asked if he was willing to do this, he hesitated for a moment and said, "Yes, I'll do it if it will save Liza". As the process began, he laid down in the hospital, his sister in a bed beside him. Quietly he asked if he would start to die right away. You see....he mistakenly thought he was going to have to give her ALL his blood. It brings tears to my eyes to think of this again, a little boy only on earth for 5 years, loved his sister SO much, he was willing to lay down his life to save hers.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">God loves us that much and more.
He knows the numbers of hairs on our head (Luke 12:7),
He knows every tear we shed (Psalm 56:8)
His thoughts toward us outnumber the grains of sand (Psalm 139:17-18)

<span style="background-color: #fce5cd; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">God IS love....

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">He defines love....

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

His nature is love...

<span style="background-color: #fce5cd; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">His attributes are love.

<span style="background-color: #fce5cd; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="background-color: #fce5cd; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">He knows and loves YOU individually.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">God loves us so much that he sent his son Jesus to die on the cross and pay the penalty for our sin. (John 3:16-17). Believing this and putting and trust and hope in Jesus will save us.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">J. Wilbur Chapman wrote the hymn "One Day", the chorus sums up the Gospel message well.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I found a post-it note on my husband's desk - one of many he'd written in tiny handwriting. This one was about prayer and certainly gave me much to ponder. Here's what he wrote:
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Have you ever thought of all the people in the world, who are praying at the same time in hundreds, possibly thousands of languages and dialects? God hears every prayer. He not only hears the prayers, He remembers every word of each prayer. The number of prayers God has heard since Adam & Eve is as the number of the grains of sand by the sea.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">That in itself is remarkable, yet to further astound us is the fact He has remembered every word that has ever been spoken by anyone. He knows all the words we will ever speak. We serve an awesome, omniscient God with unlimited abilities.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The Lord is near to all who call upon Him,
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">To all who call upon Him in truth.
Psalm 145:18
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Save the graphic if you'd like and print out. A pretty reminder to PRAY about everything. Tuck it in a card for a friend, use for your ladies at church. Lots of possibilities. Not for commercial use.

If you're on Facebook or Instagram, and you enjoy my blog, you may want to follow me at either of those sites. <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">John 3:16

ETERNAL LIFE ~ Living forever and ever. Webster's Dictionary defines ETERNAL as:
having infinite duration characterized by abiding fellowship with God continued without intermission - perpetual existing at all times - timeless

Eternal life is available to any who believe in Jesus as their Savior, just as John 3:16 says. It is free for the taking, no coupon codes necessary, no standing in lines to get it, there is nothing one can do to earn it.

My dear aunt passed away two years ago this week and I know without a doubt she is with her Lord in Heaven. She is also reunited with ones she held very dear in her lifetime. How do I know this? Because she expressed to me that she believed in Jesus and knew when she died, she'd be in heaven with Him.

My aunt was blind later on in years, and on this very day her vision is clearer than she ever thought possible. Blind hymn-writer Fanny Crosby said: When I get to heaven, the first face that shall ever gladden my sight will be that of my Savior!

One of Fanny's later hymns as she aged, gives us a glimpse into her thoughts as she came closer to stepping into Eternal Life. This is titled My Savior First of All, here is the first verse and chorus.

When my lifework is ended and I cross the swelling tide,
When the bright and glorious morning I shall see,
I shall know my Redeemer when I reach the other side,
And His smile will be the first to welcome me.
I shall know Him, I shall know Him,
And redeemed by His side I shall stand!
I shall know Him, I shall know Him
By the print of the nails in His hand.

Dear ones, don't miss out... tomorrow is not promised for any of us. If you should die tonight or tomorrow, do you know where you'll spend eternity? You don't have to "clean up" to come to Jesus, He asks for you to come as you are.

This is part of a poem by Christina Rossetti, later set to music. It sums it all up simply.

What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
Yet what I can I give Him; give my heart.

You can find a couple different places on my blog if you want to read more on this topic, just click on the links below:

ETERNAL DESTINATION
HEAVEN

My friend Donna is a gifted writer. Last year she gave me permission to share a poem she wrote based on the Nativity. A version of The Night Before Christmas. A good read to have with your family as you reflect on the reason for the season. The Night Before Christmas
