"Great is thy Faithfulness" was written by Thomas Chisholm in 1923. It was most likely based on Lamentations 3:22-23. The music was written by William Runyan the same year.
Runyan prayed: "This particular poem held such an appeal that I prayed most earnestly that my tune might carry its message in a worthy way, and the subsequent history of its use indicates that God answered prayer."
The Lord used two ordinary men to compose a song that continues to encourage to this day, and remains in the top 10 most popular hymns, 90+ years later.
I hope you have a blessed Sunday my friends.
Just visited Stephanie and sang my way through all the verses provided for Oh For a Thousand Tongues...sang my way through one verse here and got the same joy of remembrance that "Thou changest not" and that "all I have needed Thy hand hath provided"...it is a beautiful song and one of my favorites, too. Have a blessed Sunday and a wonderful Monday.
ReplyDeleteI truly enjoy your inspiring and beautiful emails of faith and encouragement. I love this hymn. Although I can no longer play my instruments nor direct my choirs, I can spiritually evoke the uplifting of this hymn in praise. Thank you for your continuing bible studies. Great is thou faithfulness. Praise him in song. Shirley Kimbrough.
