Websters 1828 Dictionary defines ANXIETY as: concern or solicitude respecting some event, future or uncertain, which disturbs the mind, and keeps it in a state of painful uneasiness. it expresses more than uneasiness or disturbance,......
It defines PEACE as: In a general sense, a state of quiet or tranquility; freedom from disturbance or agitation; applicable to society, to individuals, or to the temper of the mind.
Which word would you like to describe your state of mind? I'd certainly choose PEACE. However, that's not always the case when my human nature takes over.
How can we get this peace?
How can we stay in this peace?
How can we get rid of the anxiety?
God tells us in this verse, Philippians 4:6-7, not to be anxious. This is not something we can do on our own if we are prone to be anxious in the first place. To truly have a peace that we can't begin to comprehend, we must bring our anxiety to God in prayer. Ask Him to take it, ask Him to take control of the problem and trust that He will do that.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

I guarantee, the more you pray, the more you read your Bible, the more you seek the Lord, the greater PEACE you will have.

ReplyDeleteI keep reading about Billy Graham's prayer life and being convicted that I need to do less "doing" and more praying.
And your lovely signature image is almost as pretty as mine. :-)
Minutes before this arrived in my email, I was dealing with some anxiety. The Lord brought this to my attention at just the right time. Nothing said here is new but I sure needed the reminder. Thank you, Abby.
ReplyDeleteMichele, I'm sure Billy Graham must have read somewhere along the way about the prayer life of George Mueller. Yes, pray more, do less "doing". As for the signature...I know the gal who made it and will have a chat with her. hehe.
ReplyDeleteBarbara - that's wonderful to read. Thank you for telling me. I'm so glad you were encouraged.
