For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You,
for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
Psalm 139:13-14 (NKJV)
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You,
for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
Psalm 139:13-14 (NKJV)
You know that God loves you now, but do you realize that He always has – even before you were born? Even before the world was created? He has loved you from the very foundation of time. ~ Dr. David Jeremiah ~
A friend of mine (photo above) recently gave birth to a new baby. It was a joyous occasion for all who knew this couple. I was visiting them in the hospital when the pediatrician came in to examine the baby. He checked him all over, listened to heart and lungs, counted fingers and toes and declared him, officially perfect.
Nine months earlier, God began a miraculous process. From the time the egg was fertilized, He was with this little one. God knew all the physical characteristics before there were even bones or heart. This tiny microscopic life, this embryo, needed only the time to grow and develop to be born. At the time of birth, God gave this little baby his first breath outside the womb.
Our appearance on earth is not an accident. God has a plan for everyone that has ever been conceived. He has loved us before our time began.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.
Psalm 139:15-16
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.
Psalm 139:15-16
The term “skillfully wrought” literally means “embroidered. God has embroidered us. We are part of His intricately designed tapestry, the design in which He weaves all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). It’s the design by which His intentions are slowly but surely fulfilled. ~ Dr. David Jeremiah
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD,
thoughts of peace and not of evil,
to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11
God’s thoughts for us, for our lives, are good. He has a perfect plan for us if we yield to Him. When we give each situation to the Lord in prayer, he foreknows and will provide a way out.
When God gives us a child to raise for Him, He entrusts that child in our care. Since children are so helpless and vulnerable, God takes it personally when they are intentionally harmed. God made them, and put life into them.
With the advancement of technology, we can actually see inside the womb as a baby develops. A mathematician named Alexander Tsiaras gave a TED presentation titled Conception to Birth – Visualized. The imagery he obtained is phenomenal. You can view his 10 minute presentation below.

Even though I am a mathematician, I look at [fetal development] with marvel: The complexity of these things, the mathematical model of how these things are indeed done, is beyond human comprehension. — Alexander Tsiaras
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.

Life begins at conception, we know this because of the many scriptures to base it on.
What was true of David (author of Psalm 139) is true of you. You are special—along with everyone else in the world. This being true, we must be pro-life in the purest sense of the word. We are to respect and cherish all human life: the born and those still in the womb; winsome children and weary seniors; the wealthy executive and the financially destitute. All persons are unique productions of our Creator’s genius. ~ David Roper

What a lovely post Abby! This is difficult for me to say out in the open on a public blog, but I am going to be courageous and tell my story. I say this in hopes to discourage anyone from going through an abortion if they may have reservations about a pregnancy.
ReplyDeleteMany years ago I got involved in a relationship and did not make the most intelligent choices. As a result I ended up getting pregnant. The father of this child was not the most responsible person in the world. I also discovered that I did not want to spend the rest of my life with this person.
So I was in a tricky situation - a dilemma of sorts. Because I knew in my heart that the father of this baby would not be able to take care of us, I considered getting an abortion. I even had an appointment set to do so.
Somehow by the grace of God, my mom found out about it!! She called me up and said: "Do you know how LONG your brother and his wife have been trying to have a baby?!?" I said no. She told me that they had been trying for SEVEN years, and had many miscarriages. Finally they stopped trying. She pleaded with me and said that the Lord wants this baby to be here. She also said that my brother and his wife would be willing to adopt this child.
So I decided to go through it. During my pregnancy I went through a lot of emotions regarding self-worth and such. However, once the baby was born it was all SO worth it!! To see the joy that this child brought to their lives was the most beautiful gift in the world.
The whole time I was pregnant they would talk to the baby in their prayer time. Do you know that when this baby was born it was like she intuitively knew that I was not her mommy. She was sort of fidgety and crabby around me. As soon as "mom" arrived with my brother and I gave her up to them, she calmed down immediately. How did she know?!? Even though I still have not let go of some of the guilt involving this situation, I feel that the Lord's hand was on this situation the whole time and still is.
They named her Heaven Leigh! She is well loved and home schooled with a strong Christian presence in her life. Her mommy is a great mommy!
Just this fall they told her who her birth mother is, so I'm a bit more comfortable discussing this. However it is very very personal.
Hopefully this story could help anyone who may have reservations about a pregnancy. I hope I haven't weighted down the comments area with my story. It is a very beautiful one in its own unique way as God took my mistake and turned it into a beautiful gift for my brother and his wife to cherish.
Wow! That video was absolutely awe-inspiring. How can anyone doubt that we have a Creator. We truly are fearfully and wonderfully made. Thanks for sharing this Abby!
ReplyDeleteThank you Abby for your words and for the art work. Yes. God does love us. I know from my own journey, that although I was put at risk during my childhood, He prevented much worse happening to me than what did.

ReplyDeleteAbby, this is just a beautiful devotion. My daughter is expecting anytime my 4th grandchild and I am sending this to her also, but what a reminder of how God does know everything about us from even before we were conceived. Thanks for a fabulous devotion.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! Psalm 139: 13-14 were the verses I thought upon during my 9 months of pregnancy. I was so amazed by God's power and design. Our Lord is truly amazing and leaves me speechless with His love and creation.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this wonderful post!
Happy Valentine's Day!
Hugs,
Stephanie
I started crying as I read this and watched it. What a powerful post, Abby. I wish the whole WORLD would read this post. It's absolutely beautiful. What a precious gift from God. That photo of him where it looks like he's praying is just TOO precious. If he COULD pray, He would be saying, "thank you, Jesus, for my life and please protect all the babies who need You."
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL post - and beautiful art. You are such a blessing!

The Blessing of the LORD be Upon You!
Oh that little one looks as if he's saying a prayer...darling! I learned a few things today. Had not known that skillfully wrought meant embroidered...and love the idea. Just love it!
ReplyDeleteSu...thank you for your courage with your comment....God bless you and keep you.
ReplyDeleteAbby, this was an amazing video link! Thank you! I support Creation Ministries because even some Christians believe in evolution and then when questions about life come up they are not certain of their answers. Beautiful posting. Thank you!
That was amazing! Beyond mathematical understanding...that's nothing short of God! It certainly brings the scripture about being knit together in my mother's womb to life. This was my sermon today as I was too chicken to go to church for the second Sunday in a row. The winds are just howling here. Hope that you have a warm and cozy day there.
ReplyDeleteAnd now John's been here to watch...and "they" say we just happened...
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post Abby....I pray that it gets shared and read many, many times.
