Thankful Hymn - Free Graphic

Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving;
Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.
Psalm 95:2

There are not a lot of Thanksgiving hymns when compared to the Christmas season. However, here's a robust song of thanks, titled "Come, Ye Thankful People, Come", written by Henry Alford in 1844.

Come, ye thankful people, come,
Raise the song of harvest-home!
All is safely gathered in,
Ere the winter storms begin:
God our Maker doth provide
For our wants to be supplied;
Come to God’s own temple, come,
Raise the song of harvest-home!

All the world is God's own field,
fruit as praise to God we yield;
wheat and tares together sown
are to joy or sorrow grown;
first the blade and then the ear,
then the full corn shall appear;
Lord of harvest, grant that we
wholesome grain and pure may be.

For the Lord our God shall come,
and shall take the harvest home;
from the field shall in that day
all offenses purge away,
giving angels charge at last
in the fire the tares to cast;
but the fruitful ears to store
in the garner evermore.

Even so, Lord, quickly come,
bring thy final harvest home;
gather thou thy people in,
free from sorrow, free from sin,
there, forever purified,
in thy presence to abide;
come, with all thine angels, come,
raise the glorious harvest home.

Have a blessed day my friends. You're welcome to use this hymn graphic for personal or ministry use, not to be sold. Thank you.

Happy November ~ A Poem of Thanks

Thank you, God, for everything,
The big things and the small.
For "every good gift comes from God"...
The giver of them all.
And all too often we accept,
without any thanks or praise,
The gifts God sends as blessings,
each day in many ways.
And so at this Thanksgiving Time,
we offer up a prayer...
So thank you, God, for giving us
a lot more than our share.
~ Helen Steiner Rice ~

Have a blessed day my friends.

Thanksgiving Poem

Thank you, God, for everything,
The big things and the small.
For "every good gift comes from God"...
The giver of them all.
And all too often we accept, without any thanks or praise,
The gifts God sends as blessings, each day in many ways.
And so at this Thanksgiving Time, we offer up a prayer...
To thank you, God, for giving us a lot more than our share.

First, thank you for the little things
That often come our way,
The things we take for granted
But don't mention when we pray,
The unexpected courtesy, the thoughtful, kindly deed,
A hand reached out to help us in the time of sudden need.
Oh, make us more aware, dear God, of little daily graces
That come to us with "sweet surprise"
From never-dreamed-of places.

Then, thank you for the "Miracles"
We are much too blind to see,
And give us new awareness of our many gifts from Thee,
And help us to remember that the Key of Life and Living
Is to make each prayer a Prayer of Thanks
And every day Thanksgiving

~ Helen Steiner Rice ~

A very happy Thanksgiving to you all. May this day be filled with joy, hope, love and thankfulness.

Thankful for God's Love

Here in the U.S., as the Thanksgiving holiday is celebrated, it causes many to pause and reflect on what they are thankful for, the blessings God has given them. One of the things I'm most thankful for is God's love, which He tells us, endures forever. I'm a child of a loving and living God, who loves me more than I can comprehend, for all of eternity.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
    his love endures forever.
Psalm 106:1

❤❤❤❤❤

I remember reading a true story about a little boy, 5 years old, who was asked to give his blood so his sister could live. When the doctor explained it to him and asked if he was willing to do this, he hesitated but for a moment and said, "Yes, I'll do it if it will save Liza".

As the process began, he laid down in the hospital, his sister in a bed beside him. Quietly he asked if he would start to die right away. You see....he mistakenly thought he was going to have to give her ALL his blood. It brings tears to my eyes to think of this again, a little boy only on earth for 5 years, loved his sister SO much, he was willing to lay down his life to save hers.

❤❤❤❤❤

God loves us that much and more. He knows the numbers of hairs on our head, He thinks about us all the time, and wants what is best for us. He loves us with an unconditional love. If you put your trust in Him, you will have that love for all eternity. A hymn The Love of God written in 1917 sums this up.
O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure
The saints’ and angels’ song.

In this season of Thanksgiving, join me in remembering to take time to be Thankful for the Love of God. Let him know how grateful you are for His unconditional love.

Thanksgiving Encouragement

Do not be anxious about anything,
but in every situation,
by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving,
present your requests to God.
Philippians 4:6 NIV

Praise, O praise our God and King;
Hymns of adoration sing;
For His mercies still endure
Ever faithful, ever sure.
Praise Him that He made the sun
Day by day his course to run;
For His mercies still endure
Ever faithful, ever sure.
~Henry Baker, 1861 ~

Gratitude is all in the Attitude

free for personal use or sharing

Websters Dictionary, 1828 describes GRATITUDE as: An emotion of the heart, excited by a favor or benefit received; a sentiment of kindness or good will towards a benefactor; thankfulness.

Did you catch that? An emotion of the heart!

ATTITUDE is defined as: the way you think and feel about someone or something, a feeling or way of thinking that affects a person's behavior

My husband, who was raised by his grandparents, grew up poor. Interestingly, he said he never knew it until later in life. Why? His grandparents had an attitude of gratitude and didn't dwell or talk about what they didn't have. They were grateful for what God had blessed them with. They had this emotion in their heart and it overflowed in their attitude and words.

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.  Luke 6:45

Have a blessed day my friends....and remember...Gratitude is all in the attitude.

Thankful for the Blessings

One of the definitions of blessings is defined as:

A favor or gift bestowed by God, thereby bringing happiness

Our natural tendency is to focus on our problems and how to solve them rather than focusing on the blessings and giving God our problems to solve.  I have tried to do just that, to shift my focus away from my problems and give thanks and praise to God for my blessings.

We’re told in Psalm 68:19 that God LOADS us DAILY with benefits.

I am all about looking for blessings every day and encouraging others to do the same. It wasn’t always like that for me but life has a way of giving us choices to make. We can let our troubles overcome US or we can choose to overcome THEM.

Life is not easy and problems face us every day
• our health
• finances
• relationships

It’s often out of those struggles we find our greatest blessings.

Christian songwriter, Laura Story wrote the song “Blessings” during her husband’s treatment for brain cancer.  She sings “what if trials of this life, are your mercies in disguise”.

Parapalegic and author Joni Eareckson Tada says:

To give thanks is not the same as “feeling thankful.” To give thanks in the midst of pain and problems is to take a step of faith based on the command of
1 Thessalonians 5:18: God tells us to give thanks in all circumstances (not just those we can handle or feel on top of). For what things can you give thanks, even while you’re hurting?

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing,
in everything give thanks;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

As we approach this Christmas season and our lives are filled with hustle and bustle.  Let's slow down long enough to see the blessings God has given us each day.  Write them down….they are there for you to enjoy.  Train yourself to have a spirit of gratitude by acknowledging God’s abundant blessings in all circumstances. Have a blessed Thanksgiving.

Gratitude Beyond Circumstances

Perhaps this day will offer you
a bouquet of beauteous bounty.
Perhaps this day will cause you grief or worry.
Your hands may be empty or full.
Your heart may be singing or low.
Still, perhaps, if willing, you cast your eyes on Him
who provides and guides,
you'll discover in secret heart chambers -
gratitude beyond your circumstances.

~ Donna Munro ~
Donna is a friend of mine who is a gifted writer. Writing is just one of her many gifts. She understands about gratitude beyond circumstances and writes from her heart. She gave me permission to use these lovely words with all of you.

Fanny Crosby, blind hymn-writer had gratitude beyond her circumstances.   Born in 1820, she was blinded as a baby.  Her mother and grandmother read the Bible to her and she committed large passages to memory.  She went on to write over 9,000 hymns, many which we still use today.  If Fanny had turned bitter about her blindness, millions of people would most likely have missed the blessing of her writings.  Fanny had gratitude beyond her circumstances and said this about her blindness:

Oh, what a happy child I am,
Although I cannot see!
I am resolved that in this world
Contented I will be!
How many blessings I enjoy
That other people don't!
To weep or sigh because I'm blind,
I cannot and I won't.

~ Fanny Crosby ~

I have heard countless stories recently about people who have gratitude beyond their circumstances. The one that stands out the most is a young mother from my home state of Maine.  Her daughter Addilyn is three years old, has never spoken a word and suffers from a rare neurological disease. They were recently told "Prepare for the worst, but hope for the best".

Addilyn's mother has a facebook page to raise awareness of this disease.  Every day she posts to the 100,000+ followers, of their gratitude beyond circumstances.  It amazes me the strength she has and what an encouragement she is to so many people.  You can find Addilyn's Journey of Hope here:
https://www.facebook.com/AddilynsJourneyOfHope

She recently wrote this:

I can't express the joy, love or gratitude I have in my heart writing this post. I honestly didn't expect her to come this far, but all the while I had faith and hope that she somehow would. I'm so proud of her. I'm grateful for the example, the shining light, that she continues to be, brightly for myself and many others.

I'm so thankful for your prayers. I'm so grateful for the Lord's tender mercies. I know He hears and answers our prayers. I feel so humbled and blessed to have had not only another day but another blessed weekend with Addilyn.

We will remain with HOPE for a cure, PRAYER for a miracle and THANKFUL for this moment!

Linda, who blogs at Grandmalay's Daydreams has gratitude beyond her circumstances as you'll see from any of her posts as she battles breast cancer, chemotherapy and all the challenges it brings.

These are just a few examples of those living with gratitude beyond their circumstances.  I'm sure you know many people who are, perhaps you are yourself.  I'll close with these words from Max Lucado:

Gratitude gets us through the hard stuff. To reflect on your blessings is to rehearse God’s accomplishments. To rehearse God’s accomplishments is to discover his heart. To discover his heart is to discover not just good gifts but the Good Giver. Gratitude always leaves us looking at God and away from dread. It does to anxiety what the morning sun does to valley mist. It burns it up.

For those celebrating Thanksgiving this week, I pray you have a blessed holiday.

Thankful for the Small Things

I asked for bread and got a stone;
I used the stone to grind the grain
That made the flour to form the bread
That I could not obtain.

Instead of asking Him to give
The things for which we pray,
All that we need to ask from God
Is this: show us the way.
~ James A. Bowman ~

All the Blessings of the Year

For all the blessings of the year,
For all the friends we hold so dear,
For peace on earth, both far and near,
We thank Thee, Lord.

For life and health, those common things,
Which every day and hour brings,
For home, where our affection clings,
We thank Thee, Lord.

For love of Thine, which never tires,
Which all our better thought inspires,
And warms our lives with heavenly fires,
We thank Thee, Lord.

For All the Blessings of the Year
Albert Hutchinson, 1913

Have a blessed day friends.

Happy Thanksgiving

 Happy Thanksgiving my friends!!

Oh give THANKS
to the LORD
for he is GOOD
Psalm 106:1

Thanksgiving........such a wonderful time to reflect on God's goodness to us.

I can say that I have a grateful heart this Thanksgiving.  I have learned to appreciate the little things in my life and am more contented than I've ever been before.  I am grateful for my family and friends, but most grateful for a God who loves me more than I can comprehend, knows me better than I know myself, and promises never to leave me or give me more than I can bear.

I am thankful for:

  •     6 healthy grand babies who enrich my life in so many ways
  •     a husband who loves me unconditionally, & is forgiving of my faults
  •     My daughter, her husband and their two little boys
  •     My mother who lives nearby and is a prayer warrior to so many
  •     My stepson, his sweet wife, and their three little ones.
  •     My stepdaughter, her husband and their baby girl
  •     My sisters, sister in laws, nieces, nephews and their families.
  •     My church family
  •     A generous supply of friends that would drop whatever they were doing and either pray for me if I needed it, or physically come to help me if I asked them.
  •     I am grateful for each and every one of my online friends, blog readers, and my Little Birdie Blessings facebook friends, who are so dear to me, and have offered me so much encouragement and kindness.  Thank you!

Praying for God's blessings on you in this coming year.  Happy Thanksgiving.
