A Cheerful Heart

I was privileged to play the piano yesterday at the funeral for a dear man from our town. He was known for his quick wit, humor, and positive outlook in any situation. We're told in Proverbs 17:22:

A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

His cheerful heart was indeed an example of good medicine to everyone he encountered.  He had the ability to turn any frown upside down, and turn any sad day into a glad day.  He will be missed, not only by his family and friends, but by the many, many students he impacted over his 15 years of substitute teaching.

A cheerful heart really does make a difference.  Try it today, not only for yourself, but for someone would benefit from having their spirits lifted.

Therefore encourage one another
and build each other up,

just as in fact you are doing.

I Thessalonians 5:11

I hope you have a cheerful day.

  1. Lovely Abby, thank you for writing this. Your words hit a chord and this small sentence hit home, "Try it today, not only for yourself, but for someone would benefit from having their spirits lifted."

You have been in my thoughts and I pray you have a beautiful week. Hugs to you!

  2. Now I was here and read this so if there's another comment floating about, please ignore this one. Perhaps I was interrupted. It happens!

What a wonderful legacy to leave behind...that of good cheer and an uplifted and uplifting spirit. This man will certainly be missed.

I'll put my grin on and see how the day goes! Currently, I'm only grinning at the cat, though I have a husband, two grands, and a son to interact with before day's end.

  3. Sweet pictures Abby! I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your friend! Encouraging words are so important in our day! AND a smile! I've noticed not many people smile at others anymore....lots of troubles on their minds, I guess. Just that one little smile could be an window of hope for them! BLESSINGS! :)

  6. Thank you, Abby, for playing so beautifully for Timmy (and all of us, too)! Your church is so warm and friendly. Have heard good things about it for many years but had never come by. My loss!
It's hard to think of life without Timmy. Whatever he said, felt, sang or did, he did with his whole heart!
It was wonderful to see you again and hear your husband. Please thank him for doing such a good "goodbye" for Timmy.
    Blessings, Rita
