Love Divine, All Loves Excelling

Love divine, all loves excelling,
Joy of Heav’n to earth come down;
Fix in us thy humble dwelling;
All thy faithful mercies crown!
Jesus, Thou art all compassion,
Pure unbounded love Thou art;
Visit us with Thy salvation;
Enter every trembling heart.
Joy of Heav’n to earth come down;
Fix in us thy humble dwelling;
All thy faithful mercies crown!
Jesus, Thou art all compassion,
Pure unbounded love Thou art;
Visit us with Thy salvation;
Enter every trembling heart.
Charles Wesley wrote over 6,000 hymns and it is said, this was one of his finest. This hymn was sung at the wedding of Prince William & Catherine.
The hymn pictured here is taken from a hymn book in my collection dated 1888. The cover is shown below. The hymn and cover graphic are free for you. Just click to enlarge picture, right click and save to your computer.
Thanks for stopping by today.
Hi Abby, I love the hymn and thank you for sharing it. Wow, 6000 hymns he wrote, that's incredible.
ReplyDeleteDid you move your linky party? I don't see the current one.
I hope you're doing well. Hugs
The Wesleys were inspired.
ReplyDeleteI also appreciate the verse from John 1:16 that's on your banner. I've not heard that before today, but it rings so true.
Thanks!
p.s. If you enjoy birds, feel free to stop over and browse my blog at I Wonder As I Wander.
Wow, the hymn is so beautiful! One of these days I would love to learn to read music. The book cover is amazingly beautiful! I wonder what plant/flower is illustrated there. I *love* old illustrations like that with the custom typography and such.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing!!
Thank you Abby - love that hymn, it was the opening hymn at our wedding.

Your blog looks very special. I sing in a choir at church so I love sheet music and vintage music books. Thanks for sharing them. I adore birds and it all speaks to me. I'm going to be a new follower. Have a blessed weeek.

One of my favorite hymns of all time!
ReplyDeleteAbby~I have just posted about an Altered Journal Swap that I was in and I used an image of yours for one of the journals I made. I linked to your blog and also wanted to link to the post that the image came from but I couldn't find it. Did you take the post down or have I just completely lost my marbles? I loved this image and it worked out so nicely with the papers I used. your work is so divine!
Thanks so much!
