Scripture Thursday ~ Trusting Through Tribulation

These things I have spoken to you,
that in Me you may have peace.
In the world you will have tribulation;
but be of good cheer,

I have overcome the world.
John 16:33

My sister in law is in an area of New Jersey which was devastated by Hurricane Sandy.  She is only able to text, and we just heard from her.  She is safe, but stranded.  I have cryptic notes from her like:

NO POWER OR WATER
BRIDGE UNSAFE

Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10

HOUSES IN THE ROAD
SINK HOLES
FIRES

We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed;
we are perplexed, but not in despair;
persecuted, but not forsaken;
struck down, but not destroyed.2 Corinthians 4:8-9

The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Psalm 18:2

They are exhausted but everyone is helping one another with their resources.
Therefore comfort each other
and edify one another,
just as you also are doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Trusting Jesus
Edgar P. Sites ~ 1876

Simply trusting every day,
Trusting through a stormy way;
Even when my faith is small,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Brightly does His Spirit shine
Into this poor heart of mine;
While He leads I cannot fall;
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Singing if my way is clear,
Praying if the path be drear;
If in danger for Him call;
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Trusting Him while life shall last,
Trusting Him till earth be past;
Till within the jasper wall,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Trusting as the moments fly,
Trusting as the days go by;
Trusting Him whate’er befall,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

The LORD is my strength and my shield;
My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped.

Psalm 28:7a

Prayer:  Give me eyes to see beyond my own pain and help me to pray for the needs of others.  You are greater than the greatest needs.  You are the Overcomer!

Trusting and praying for a good report next time you hear from your sister-in-law.
Thankfully my niece and her family are safe, they are in NYC but about 20 blocks from the devastation. They don't have TV so were unaware of all the damage going on.

Thank you, Abby for sharing such a wonderful encouraging post. God bless.

Thank you for sharing this with us. I'm happy to put a name ("Abby's sister in law") on my prayer list, along with the many, many that I haven't names for that are struggling to recover.

Thank you Abby for these words - they were very, very timely as I was starting to look at circumstances rather than God.
Praying for those who are in distress in your nation.
Blessings

Abby - It is constant on my mind. We were inland but direct path and oddly our central South Jersey town came through with minor problems. We had power the whole time. The devastated communities are a mere 30 minute drive from our front door. There is a tremendous feeling of "loss of place" as the infrastructure by the shoreline is completely erased. Lives and livelihoods upended. Thank you for your prayers and these encouraging verses. God is in control - praying He is glorified through it all.
Joy!
