Mother's Day Free Graphics

All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.
I remember my mother’s prayers
and they have always followed me.
They have clung to me all my life.

Scripture Thursday ~ The Seasons

For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;
The flowers appear on the earth;
 the time of the singing of birds is come,
and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.
Song of Solomon 2:11,12

It’s official, SPRING has SPRUNG.  I think my little corner of Maine, is the very last place for flowers to show their faces.  I do have some flowers blooming, but it may be another month before the lilacs bloom.

Although it was a mild winter for us, I still longed for Spring.  It’s awesome to me, that God controls the seasons and how every aspect of nature is interwoven.  (…he changeth the times and the seasons.  Daniel 2:21)

I certainly don’t think it’s a coincidence that He chose to have Spring follow Winter.  Maine winters are usually long and cold.  Towards the end of winter when the snow has melted; everything is brown and drab.  There are no leaves on the trees, the grass is brown, and nature is somewhat lifeless.  Then, almost without warning the grass turns green, buds appear on the trees, and flowers poke their heads up out of the ground - as evidenced by the daisies in my friend Diane's garden.

 Spring is a rebirth of nature, a time of new beginnings.  I am in awe of God's power, which is evidenced through the creation.    As I thought about the miracle of the seasons of nature, and the life seasons that we personally experience, I was reminded of the hymn GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS.

free hymn printable

 No matter the situation, or the trial - for those who put their trust in Him, God is ABSOLUTELY FAITHFUL to us.  He’s NEVER CHANGING; He will not fail us; every new day He provides for us (see Lamentations 3:22-23).
My favorite line of this hymn - STRENGTH FOR TODAY and BRIGHT HOPE FOR TOMORROW.   A promise I cling to.

GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS
Thomas O. Chisholm, 1923

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Scripture Thursday ~ Cast Your Burdens

Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee:
 he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
Psalm 55:22

My husband enjoys the hobby of fly fishing.  It always amazes me how when he casts his fly rod, it dances effortlessly across the river, seeming like it will never land.

source: pinterest
Webster’s 1828 dictionary defines the word CAST as follows:
To throw, fling or send; that is, to drive from, by force, as from the hand.

If our burdens were tangible objects, how easy it would be to hook it on the end of a fly rod and CAST it effortlessly across the river?  Obviously, it doesn’t work like that.
However, God promises us in this verse, if we do
CAST our burdens on Him, He will SUSTAIN us.

Webster’s 1828 dictionary defines SUSTAIN as:
To bear; to uphold; to support; as, a foundation sustains the superstructure; pillars sustain an edifice;
The hope of a better life sustains the afflicted amidst all their sorrows.

.
The lyrics of one of my favorite hymns goes well with this verse.

He Giveth More Grace
written by Annie J. Flint (1866 – 1932)
He giveth more grace as our burdens grow greater,
He sendeth more strength as our labors increase;
To added afflictions He addeth His mercy,
To multiplied trials he multiplies peace.

When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources
Our Father’s full giving is only begun.

His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,
His power no boundary known unto men;
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.

To cast our burden upon God, is to rest upon his promise.  If we have the faith of a child to do this, He will carry us in the everlasting arms.    He promises in Hebrews 13:5b ~ …I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

He is Risen ~ He is Risen Indeed

HE IS RISEN
HE IS RISEN INDEED

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again
unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
1 Peter 1:3

Scripture Thursday Linky Party ~ Be of Good Cheer

 These things I have spoken unto you,
that in me ye might have peace.
In the world ye shall have tribulation:
but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
John 16:33

Free vintage postcard

Hello my friends and welcome to another Scripture Thursday here at Little Birdie Blessings.  I chose this be of good cheer verse today as there are many people I know who are going through some serious trials and tribulations.

I’m sure many of you have friends and family struggling with various trials, and/or are struggling with your own problems.   Tribulations as you know, can come in many forms such as addictions, financial, health, obsessions, relationships, the passing of a loved one, and the list goes on.  While you may not be the one with the specific problem, it becomes your problem when it involves a spouse, child, parent, sibling or other close relative or friend.

Free Scripture Card

In today’s verse, John 16:33 ~ Jesus tells us despite our tribulations, in him, we can have good cheer and peace.  Why?   Because He has overcome the world.  Through His death and resurrection, he secured the victory for those who put their trust in Him.   Like the chorus of an old hymn says:

Faith is the victory! Faith is the victory!
O glorious victory that overcomes the world.

In 1 John 5:4 we’re told:
 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world:
and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Jesus triumphed

conquered

and overcame

He gives you the power to do the same.
THIS is why you can be of good cheer.

Being a Christian, doesn’t mean you won’t have trials and tribulations,
it does mean you will have the strength necessary to overcome them with Jesus walking beside you.

Be of good cheer my friends, you are a living testimony by the way you handle your tribulations.  God tells us in 2 Corinthians 1:3,4 we will have opportunity to help others going through similar circumstances.

…..The God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
