Memorial Day

Hello friends - As I write this post, Memorial Day 2016, a rainy day, a day of remembrance for those who died in service for their country. My husband, a Vietnam Veteran and I were privileged to visit the Vietnam Moving Wall, last evening. The Moving Wall has been in our area for a few days and a great honor for it to be near us on Memorial Day Weekend.  A very sobering scene for all in attendance, quiet and respectful.

Thank you to all who have been praying for my friend Vee's husband John. It is with sadness, I tell you that John went home to be with the Lord on May 28th. At Vee's request, I have written a guest post on her blog to inform her readers. You can find it here: God Will Take Care of You

Vee's favorite color yellow serves as the background for this hymn "God Will Take Care of You". A hymn that I believe will bring comfort to Vee as she mourns, and perhaps to you for whatever trials face you. Please keep Vee and her family in your prayers. Thank you.

  4. Abby, thank you for this post. It is beautifully written. Isn't it wonderful that you and your husband were able to visit the Moving Wall on Memorial Day weekend. A very meaningful time to visit.

    And thank you so very much for sharing the news about John's Homegoing with us. I am so sad to hear this news. Happy for John, of course. But sad for his family and especially for Vee. I can only imagine how very overwhelmed she must feel. It all happened so suddenly. We will be praying for her and for all the family that God will uphold them in the difficult days ahead.

    I love these verses from Psalm 61 and will be praying them for Vee:

    "From the end of the earth will I cry unto Thee, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
    "For Thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
    "I will abide in Thy tabernacle forever: I will trust in the covert of Thy wings." (Psalm 61:2-4)

  5. Abby, no doubt your choice of the hymn "God Will Take Care of You" was prompted by the Holy Spirit as you prepared the comforting blog post for Vee. This hymn will surely bring great peace to her and her family at this deeply sad time! I am so sad for this sweet family and join my prayers with yours and others .... we know that our loving Heavenly Father can comfort and strengthen like no other. How wonderful to know that John is now safe in the arms of our Lord and Savior.

  8. Thank you Abby, for posting on Vee's blog about John's passing. I know she appreciates it and we are all holding her and the family in prayer for her loss. We had the privilege of meeting Vee and John in April 2013 in Portland and had a wonderful time. It was like knowing old friends for a long time. My husband and John had lots to talk about. :) My heart aches for Vee. Thank you again Abby and God bless you.

  14. Thank you for posting on Vee's blog. I wanted to write her again and ask, but felt that I should check her blog often. With all the wonderful posts she wrote about John, we know that he has now joined our Heavenly Father. I bookmarked the post she wrote all those years ago when she realized that John was "the one". Everywhere she looks in her home, John will be with her in the work he's done, the words he wrote and the Bible he held. I'm so glad that we were blessed to know such a fine person through her posts. Now I will pray for comfort, peace and and beautiful memories that will be forever in her heart. Again, thank you, Abby, for the beautiful post you wrote on Vee's behalf.

  17. Thank you, Abby.
    I have come here from Vee's blog, hoping I might be able to comment. I wanted to say that my prayers for her are being added to many others, and to encourage her with these words from Isaiah 43.
    "Fear not [Vee], for I have redeemed you;
    I have summoned you by name;
    you are mine.
    When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you"

(Our family, too, was privileged to meet them in person a few years ago on a trip to Maine.) We all feel John's loss to some degree, and we grieve for our dear Vee. 26. I was so sad to read about John's passing. Vee and all her family are in my prayers. I remember her wonderful, romantic and touching post in, I think, July of 2008, when she realized she loved him and "he is the man" for her. He was a wonderful husband. I think when such things happen (death) so very quickly it is a terrible shock. My husband died of Alzheimers. It was terrible and heartbreaking, but I had time to be prepared. I hope you are right that someday Vee will blog again, because so many love her writing so much. She became very real even to those of us who never met her.
