Vintage Christmas Images

Show me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths.
Lead me in thy truth, and teach me:
for thou art the God of my salvation;
on thee do I wait all the day.
Psalm 25:4-5

I've been thinking a lot about Christmas and making preparations for a Christmas Papercraft Day at our church.  Since we had some snow on Saturday and Sunday, I thought others might be thinking about Christmas as well.  I went into my archives and came up with these two sweet Christmas or Winter vintage images for you.  I hope you enjoy them and it gets you inspired to get started on some of your Christmas projects.

I hope you have a delightful day.

A Gift for Me and a Gift for You

The LORD is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusted in him, and I am helped:
therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth;
and with my song will I praise him.
Psalm 28:7

Hello my friends, I trust you are having a good week.  I am excited to share with you that I have a "new" car.  I've been waiting patiently, and praying about it.  My previous mode of transportation was a 1994 mini van.  Granted, it was a "high end" model in it's day with all the bells and whistles, however it had become unreliable, the a/c was broken (did I mention I was born hot), and it was getting difficult to find cassette tapes to listen to. (are you laughing?)

My "new" car is a 2006, do you realize that's 11 years newer than the one I was driving.  It has a CD player (whoo hoo), a/c, and lots more features I haven't figured out yet.  That is what I'm thankful for today.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above,
and cometh down from the Father of lights,
with whom is no variableness,
neither shadow of turning.
James 1:17

Here's another vintage Thanksgiving image for you.  Free as usual.

I trust you will have a blessed day.  If you leave comments you may notice I've added the feature where you have to type in the word you see.  I'm sorry to do that to you, but I was getting so much spam comments.  Thanks for your understanding.  I'll be back tomorrow with my Bible Verse Thursday.  The project was made by a very talented woman on the design team for Our Daily Bread Designs.  I can't wait to share it with you.

I added Psalm 100:4 to this next postcard image.  I think I may have shared it on this blog before.

Lastly, I have a postcard back for you.

All who have God's blessing
can rest safely in His care,
For He promises safe passage

~ Helen Steiner Rice ~

Happy Monday to you my dear friends.  I hope you didn't think I'd forgotten about you.  I have a number of fall vintage postcards to share with you today.  Free as usual.

The first two are birthday postcards that reminded me of fall.

I really like this next image, a Victorian beauty.  The colors on this postcard reminded me of fall.

And last, but certainly not least, a Thanksgiving postcard of a sweet little girl feeding her turkeys.

I hope you have a blessed day my friends.  Thanks so much for stopping by.

Bible Verse Thursday ~ The Word of God

The grass withers, the flower fades,
but the word of our God stands forever.
Isaiah 40:8

In the midst of a season change, the grass is withering and the flowers are fading. I'm reminded that the things of this world; the things we see, are temporal. One of God's promises is in today's verse, that His word will stand forever. We have it here on this earth, and we'll have it for all eternity. It is the one thing we can turn to for direction and wisdom. God speaks to us through his word. He promises us that his word will never return void but accomplish the purpose it was set forth. His promises stand firm.

One of the reasons I encourage you to memorize scripture, is so you'll always have it with you wherever you go. I memorized a lot of scriptures starting when I was 5 years old through my teenage years. There's no way I could sit down and recite them all to you, but God brings them up to me when I need them. It's as if I have a library of scriptures stored away in my heart.

Over the years the Bible has survived book burnings, riots, and persecutions. Man may continue to try and destroy it, but God has promised us that will not happen. His word will never wither, fade, dry up, or blow away. Forever O Lord, thy word is settled in Heaven Psalm 119:89. Next time you open your Bible, reflect on how precious it is, and thank God for keeping it safe for you. The Bible, God's word - - eternal truth and never-fading beauty.

The principles of gain through loss, of joy through sorrow, of getting by giving, of fulfillment by laying down, of life out of death is what the Bible teaches, and the people who have believed it enough to live it out in simple, humble, day-by-day practice are people who have found the gain, the joy, the getting, the fulfillment, the life. Elisabeth Elliot

The sample project this week is a tag made by Cassandra at Altered for Him and features Isaiah 40:8. I like the way she used sticks to make a cross for her tag. Your challenge is to make a project using this verse or another verse following the theme of God's word.

Project Details:
Accessories: recycled cardboard, sticks, jute, paint, piece of screen, computer generated verse
Ink: Walnut Stain Distress Ink, Spritz

Free Fall Images and More Pinterest Tips

Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble,
and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
He maketh the storm a calm,
so that the waves thereof are still.
Psalm 107:28-29 (KJV)

I found that I could add a searchable box to my blog for an online Bible through BibleGateway.com.  There are lots of resources there, most importantly the Bible.  I like using it when I know part of a verse but can't remember the reference, or when I'm looking for verses that have a particular word.  It's also a good resource when you want to copy/paste verses into a Word document.  Click on the image below, to get to their site so you can grab the code to add to your blog or website.

TIPS
Would you like to see if you've been pinned?  Put this site into your url

http://pinterest.com/source/littlebirdieblessings.blogspot.com

and replace my blog name (highlighted area) with your site.

Here's another tip:

When you see a profile picture like mine below (not that I'm thrilled to be using my face here) but take a look at the three light colored buttons on the bottom of the box.

  • Clicking the first box with the globe, will take you to the website or blog of the user.
  • The middle box with the T is if you want to tweet the pin (I haven't jumped into tweeting yet)
  • By clicking the third box, it will show you the latest pins of the person you're viewing.

How about some free fall vintage postcard images. I love the first one, the corn... something so robust about it.  Click on each image to make it larger before saving to your computer.

This next vintage postcard is just as sweet as it can be.

Who doesn't enjoy some apple cider this time of year, here's a label for you.

The last image today isn't actually a fall image, but the colors reminded me of fall.
Here's a lovely yellow rose. for you.

I hope you've enjoyed today's free images, pinterest tips and the info about adding a Bible search box to your site.

Some of you may remember me asking prayer for my friend's son Luke.  He is 30 years old and has brain cancer.  He has had surgery to remove the tumor, but they were not able to remove all of it.  He has finished a course of radiation and is still undergoing chemotherapy.
In Darlene's wordsWords cannot express how touched I am with your thoughtfulness and prayers.  Luke, so far, is tolerating the chemo and radiation quite well.  He is getting a bit tired and is starting to lose his hair.  His attitude is pretty good - although I know he is scared and worried.  I have given my son over to the Lord, but at times I want to take him back again.  I have to remember that my precious Lord allowed this to happen and He knows what is ahead and what is best.  Please continue to pray for us, Luke's salvation and the Lord willing, that his life be spared.  ~ Love Darlene.

Thank you my friends for your prayers for Luke.  Darlene will see your comments, so feel free to leave a note here for her.  She's greatly encouraged, and Luke is as well, to know that others are praying for him.

    Altered for Him and Apples

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
    Proverbs 25:11

It's apple picking time here in Maine where I live.  The apples are plentiful on the trees this year.  Apple picking is a fun activity for kids, so is making applesauce. At a recent women's retreat at my church, the delicious refreshments provided for the evening had an apple theme.   Oh me, oh my these were soooo tasty.  I had to indulge myself.  I think there was cream cheese in them.

Just look how beautiful this display of apples was.  The ladies that prepared this really had a flair for doing it up in a fine way.

Here's a vintage apple postcard by Catherine Klein.  She really knew how to capture an object.  This is free for you, don't forget to click on the image to make it larger before saving it to your computer.

The next image is a vintage applesauce label.  I scanned the actual label for you.   Click for a larger image.

I hope you've enjoyed today's apple post.  If I could have you all over for apple crisp and cider, I certainly would, but this will have to suffice.

My friend Cassandra at Altered for Him Blog, surprised me today when I visited her blog and saw that she and her son had made two you tube video tutorials.  I was so excited to watch them, and learned all kinds of new skills.  In one of them, she teaches you how to make some altered art, and makes it look easy with things you probably already have.  The other was using a special foam and embossing folders, I can't wait to try that.  Here's the link to her post I'm on the Tube.

Cassandra is a special person who loves to encourage others through her art.  She offers to send a free handmade tag to someone you know that is in need of encouragement.  She calls this ministry Handmade With Love and you can find out more about it by clicking below.  Thank you Cassandra for being the sweet, kind, caring and generous person that you are.   I pray that God blesses you for your service to Him.

I tell you the truth, whatever you did
for one of the least of these brothers of mine,
you did for me.  Matthew 25:40

I hope you have a blessed day my friends.
