The Source of Your Money

Have you ever worried about the money you make or don’t make at your job, or your financial future? I’m sure we all have at one time or another. Our faith is usually put to the test when it comes to money.

Compliments of The Feathered Nest

The world view of money offers security, control and power. Putting your trust in the world’s value systems is going to end up being a disappointment for you.

God’s word tells us that we should trust Him for our needs and not worry about them. By focusing on our spiritual life, God promises to take care of our physical life, just as he cares for the birds.

Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?  Matthew 6:26-27 (NJKV)

If your heart is set on material possessions and the pride they bring you, or you spend your life trying to achieve them, you’ll be living in a state of persistent insecurity and depriving yourself of God’s spiritual blessings.

Make God the first priority in your life. Don’t worry about a future you have no control over. There is no comparison to what the world has to offer vs. God’s treasures and blessings for us.

Disciplines of the Beautiful Woman by Anne Ortlund, is a timeless book written in the 1970’s. I found her thoughts on money very interesting, and had never thought of it from this perspective. She says:

Don’t associate work with money.
The source of your money is never your job.
The source of your money is God.

He owns it, He distributes it,
and He has promised over and over
to take care of our physical needs.

The life of faith demands we do His will first – before we concern ourselves with supply. In the Christian life it’s not seeing is believing, it’s believing is seeing.

FIRST seek “His kingdom, and His righteousness” and after that “all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

When we work in obedience to Him, saying yes unreservedly before we see how, He will make it up in a thousand secret delightful ways.

I write this post from the voice of experience. A number of years ago, I had to leave my job suddenly because of health problems. It was one of the biggest steps of faith I've ever had to take. God provided and met my needs in ways that I never expected or would have even thought of.

It was a day by day, week by week and month by month process but He showed me that He was always there faithfully providing.

Thanks so much for stopping by today my friends. I hope this has caused you to reflect on God's provisions in your own life. Have a blessed week.

  6. Good and godly words for today. So many women make money their source, jobs their source, friends, even husbands. It is important to be reminded that God is our Source.

  9. Hi Abby! Thanks for sharing this. I, luckily, am not a worrier, and have been blessed with the ability to give it all to Him. My mother and brother, however, are worriers. I tell them all the time that it is not of God, and how easy it is to lay it all on Him...but they don't. They carry it all, and it worries me (especially my Mom's heart). You're absolutely right, God WANTS us to give it all to Him. But how do you get Christian to not just believe this, but to actually DO IT? I haven't figured that one out yet. You know that saying "you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink".....well, that's it right there. They are saved, but NOT giving their woes to the only One who can do anything about them. Sad, I know! Something for me to pray about, and to just let them see the peace I know by doing this. Thanks for sharing! As always, it blesses me!
Thanks also for sharing your beautiful art with us at Word Art Wednesday. You are a faithful friend and blessing to us in our ministry here in blogland, and I praise God for you, Abby!

  12. I just love your Scripture Thursday posts, Abby. (Actually I love all of your posts. lol) I've had to step out on faith many times and God is always there faithful to provide. He knows and cares about my every need. When I think about what it would be like to live without the assuance that God is there to meet my needs it makes me realize why so many people turn to alcohol and drugs to dull their pain and anxiety. Blessings and hugs!!!

  13. Abby dear friend...what a great reminder that God does provide for our needs and we need not worry. Sometimes that is easier said than done but once we surrender our needs to be met by His perfect will and timing, its always an abundant blessing. So glad I stopped by. Have a blessed week.
